Best Asics Shoes For Supination

Supination is known as underpronation, is a condition that can cause pain and injuries to your feet, ankles, and knees. It’s a problem that involves distributing your weight entirely on the outer side of your foot, causing stress throughout the entire foot and up your leg. It can lead to other foot problems such as plantar fasciitis. The modern running shoe manufacturer Asics is one of the shoe brands that make a range of shoes for supination and help to reduce the pain and swelling that accompanies it. If you’re worried that you might walk with a supine gait, and are experiencing problems because of it, then you should pick out a pair of shoes from our list of the best Asics shoes for supination.

What Is Supination?

supinationEveryone supinate to some extent which is normal, but too much supination (rolling out of foot) can put too much stress on your ankles leading to complications of the feet over time. Supination also called underpronation which is most commonly associated with high arches. In short, supination is when you walk on the side of your foot rather than the bottom and foot does not touch the ground completely. The outer edge of your foot hits the ground at an angle, which causes stress to build in your ankles and knees with every step without shock absorption by the entire foot. Supination can be mild or serious depending almost entirely on how much you roll out your foot when you walk.

Supination can be treated with a “neutral Cushioning” shoe that is one with a single-layer midsole and moderate arch support. Many shoes can help with a supine gait, but only a few are designed to treat it. These select pair of Asics shoes all have the sort of support in the midsole and cushioning in the insole that helps to eliminate supination and relieve pain in your feet and knees.

How Cushioning Shoes correct Supination?

To correct supination, you need to wear shoes with sufficient shock absorption which will help in reducing your body weight on the outer side of the foot. The adequate cushioning in Neutral Asics shoes will assist in distributing your weight evenly which will cause less stress on your feet, legs and hips. The best Asics shoes for supination provide an excellent cushioning from heels to toes to correct rolling outward of your feet at ankles.

The Asics Neutral shoes have the following features to correct the supination.

  • A lot of cushioning
  • Excellent midsole flexibility and cushion
  • Little bit of stability but more flexibility
  • There is no Support on the medial side
  • Soft with good cushioning midsole helps in providing shock absorption that lacks in supination
  • Good for no overpronators with forefoot and midfoot strikers
  • Lightweight Shoes
  • Good arch support Shoes

How Can I Tell If It’s A Problem for Me?

The easiest way to tell if you have a problem with a supine gait is to examine a well-worn pair of shoes. If supination is a problem for you, you’ll see extreme wear on the outer edge of your shoe; opposite from the arch. You can also step in a pan of water and then on a paper bag, then step off. The wet footprint that’s left behind will show you exactly how much of your foot hits the ground with every step. People who have supination gait will leave footprints that look like they have excessively high arches since very little of the foot touches the paper.

If you suspect that supination is a problem for you, then you have a few options. If it’s severe and impacting your ability to walk normally, then it’s possible that you’ll need to be fitted with a custom orthotic. If it’s mild or moderate, though, then picking a pair of shoes from the following three will ease your foot pain and help to correct your gait naturally.

What shoes to Avoid for Supination?

Avoid motion control and Stability shoes. Also, avoid shoes with support on the inner side and midsoles with hard and firm support.

  1. I have used gel Kayano 20 for almost first one year without any problems but expirencing pain on the side of heal on & off. On examining the shoe I found that I am under pronation.
Do you think the cause of pain is this or something else.

  2. Gel cumulus and gel nimbus seem to be similar for under pronation. With that being said is it OK to swap between the two to give the sneaker a break and provide the same support. Also, What are the specs on basic gel contours and duomax.
I just bought a pair if each BC of pain. My last pair were running down obviously. I maybe waited to long but replaced with the same shoe and still in pain. Do you suggest either of the two I mentioned for less activity and a good shoe to wear around?? Please help. I found this info so helpful thank you s much I hope to feel better and ease my pain.

    • If you still feel pain, then you need to have foot evaluation which you can do by visiting a local running shoe store. They such as New Balance offer free foot evaluation. Do you have high arches and underpronation? Some people have flat feet but underpronate. I recommend Brooks Dyad for that. I suggest you see the running shoe store or podiatrist to reevaluate your feet. They will recommend the shoe for your foot problem. Replace your shoes every 6 months. Asics duomax offer more support and stability than Asics Nimbus and Cumulus which I do not recommend for high arches and underpronation.

  3. Hello there,

I just recently found out that I over pronate while walking. My podiatrist suggest I wear a rear foot over pronator. Which Asics are best form my case?

Kindly note that I need something to support my hip impingement that I am developing.

    Many thanks!

    • I would suggest you consult your podiatrist again because the doctor knows your problem better. He or she can recommend a better shoe or custom orthotics according to your condition. For overpronation, I would recommend Brooks Addiction Walker or Brooks Addiction Running shoes. Again, I still recommend asking your doctor first before buying any expensive shoes.
